A big Sixer

I went home over the weekend and was afraid I would get behind seeing that I would miss my group run on Saturday but thanks to the lovely Isidalia I am not behind at all. In fact I went one mile further then I would have gone on Saturday a whopping 6 miles, and I feel great! It was a beautiful run early Sunday morning and I couldn't have asked for a better running partner. She pushed me just enough to keep me going but never too far. I always felt comfortable and capable of finishing and we did! Thank you again Isidalia for the run I can't wait to do it again!

4 Miles!

Saturday was our second day of group training, but the first day with our pace groups. I really love my pace group, we are all around the same age, all women, it's pretty empowering. I have never been one for "girl power" but I think after Saturday we deserved it. We ran 4 miles people, 4...Woot!

First Day of Training!

Saturday was my first day of training, and I have to admit it was not easy getting up at 6am on a Saturday to then drive 40 minutes to the training site and then get lost for 20 minutes, but I did and I am really happy. The energy of all the people around me was so inspiring, all different ages, ethnicity's, shapes and sizes, all there with one purpose, to support the efforts of the APLA in AIDS research and support.
I started the morning with high spirits, and then we were told that we were not allowed to wear headphones...what!!! My running mix on my cute little green ipod was all that was going to get me through this 3 mile run...what am I supposed to do now??!!! I soon found out that the same energy I felt when I first got there is what would get me through. Don't get me wrong it was insanely challenging seeing that I am not a runner, but I didn't hate it. In fact I really enjoyed it and now can't wait to run again with my group next Saturday.
Now lets be realistic, this run was not all joy, my legs are killing me and I am 99% sure I will loose some toenails,(I know, gross) but I have accepted it and I have decided to love it!

Kick Off Party!!!

Yesterday was the kick off event for my AIDS Marathon and it was really great to hear all of the inspiring stories of other marathon runners. The opposite of that was hearing the very depressing and very true facts about what a hard hit AIDS research and assistance has taken in this recent economy. The money is decreasing and the number of those affected is increasing. However the APLA (AIDS project LA) is still continuing their hard work despite these cuts, and they do it with hope and a friendly face. The whole morning was filled with smiling faces and inspiring words, and I feel really good about my decision to do this marathon. Huge thanks to everyone who is supporting me in this journey and I will continue to keep you posted on my progress!

Love to you all!
